Servicing and Parts
Servicing intervals are 18,000
Miles with Cambelts at 72,000 Miles. In addition tyres seem to last about
32-35,000 miles (2 sets Michelin, 1 Toyo and 1 Pirelli) on 15" Alloy
Rims.
In addition to this, an alternator
was replaced about 15,000 miles, a rear left wheel bearing at 66,000 miles
along with a set of front pads. At 133,000 miles, the front pads, discs,
rear shoes, 2 new springs and both rear wheel bearings were replaced due
to a long trip. Only 1 rear bearing was starting to sound off and the rear
pads were nearly new (it is rumoured they sometimes seize on when parked
up and break off when released but mine is rarely parked). 1 Front spring
had broken at the top so both were done. In addition the roll bar end
joints were replaced.
In total this is about £500 of
parts over the standard servicing in 5 years and 133,000 miles
(210,000Km). With the lowest tax band, insurance of a little over £190
and 65+mpg I have worked out that mileage (assuming the car is now
worthless) equates to about 23p / mile.
That said, residual values are good
and even if it blows up, a set of used alloy wheels usually makes £150
and many parts are worth money second hand.
All servicing bar the wheel
bearings (no press) have been done at home using the clubs suppliers. All
were genuine parts. At some point I expect the driveshafts will need doing
as they are getting on a bit but I did re grease them at 60,000 miles.
The sunroof creaks.
 |
On the front calliper, a single
piston pushes the pad onto the disc, this then pushes the calliper across
so the back pad comes on, however the pins it moves on seize up so I
take them apart about every year and re grease them with brake
grease. Middle right hand side of photo. The bolts need renewing
each time. |

If they do fail completely they
are replaceable as individual elements/ |
