Vital statistics

At the 1971 Paris Motor Show Renault simultaneously presented the Renault 15 and the Renault 17. It was the first time Renault had produced a 2 door coupe since the Caravelle in 1959.

The brand was entering the market for medium-series production sporting models.

The Renault 17 was a balanced blend of a sporting image (speed, power, dynamism) and family comfort. It was a genuine 4-seater, with a large boot easily accessible through the hatchback, a good driving position and seats designed to meet the recommendations of doctors specialising in postural comfort.

1975. In its Gordini version, the Renault 17 TL had a distinguished motor sport record. Driven by Blazef Krupa, it won the European Cup held in Eastern Europe in 1975 and 1976, and the Polish championship in 1976. The 17 TL also won the Hungarian championship in 1976 and 1977.
